Day 6 – Hue / Hoi An

The one thing I enjoyed most about Hue is the food!

Had an amazing breakfast of pork pho with yummy yummy spicy soup at Miss Cam’s stall! Reminded me of Tom yum and bak kut teh all at the sane time! Had to walk quite a bit to find this place and woke up especially early too just so we wouldn’t miss it!

Kinda undecided about lunch and decided to give the highly recommended cake from Hue a go! Hang Me ~ the traditional cakes from Hue that aren’t the regular creamy fluffy stuff we eat but instead, food made from rice flour and shrimp eaten with fish sauce… think along the lines of Chwee kueh

It’s yummy!! and a platter for just 80,000 VD!

had a rather comfortable journey by bus to Hoi An… definitely an experience and beautiful scenery along the way… thru the Hai Van Tunnel that was constructed together with the Japanese and Danang along the Vietnamese coastline… I was in awe!

Arriving in Hoi An was somewhat painful as we passed throngs of construction with large billboards saying “Hyatt Regency Danang” or “Raffles International” or “Hyatt Regency Residences”….

my reservation at Vinh Hung 3 Resort didn’t go through… And the hotel was full! Trekked around and found Nhi Trung =) right smack in the middle of Hai Ba Trung plus a mega spacious room and generous breakfast for just $10/pax! also a 7-minute walk to the Ancient Town =)

Fell in love with Hoi An when I got to the riverside… the old ladies manning the roadside stalls always had a smile for us… schweeet!

The river, lights, chinatown like shophouses,… though the paintwork and English spatter spelt commercialization… it’s beautiful…

Had 2 old ladies in their own sampans who said they wanted ‘foto!’ and after snapping a photo of them, they stretched out their hands and said ‘money!’ We walked on, ignoring them and I was thinking, ‘now look who got suckered in!!??!’ *lol*

Walked across the river and found a roadside stall with a really sweet old lady… they always melt my heart, put a smile on my face… and tried the fruit shake at the corner of Tran Cao Van and Tran Hung Dao… Who would have thought that fresh fruit with sugar and condensed milk could be this yummy!!!

spied the grilled meat noodles at the corner roadside stall at Tran Cao Van and made a note to come back tomorrow night for dinner! Missing the BBQ beef back at Hanoi’s Ma May Street!
